This new online community format allows us to come together and share what is going on in our lives so that we might be encouraged by one another, learn from one another and pray for one another. Questions from the 7-week Bible Study curriculum Finding Glory in the Thorns: Group Discussion Guide serve as a starting point for our conversations. However, everyone is encouraged to get involved in this discussion whether you have read any of the Finding Glory resources or not.

Today’s scriptures and discussion questions are:

“I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant will also be. My Father will honor the one who serves me. No my heart is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour?’ No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. Father, glorify your name!” JOHN 12:24-28

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I lve in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” GALATIANS 2:20

Sometimes the daily logistics, pressing needs, the desire to care for someone, and even our passions consume our lives. How do you prevent these things from consuming the very nature of who you are?

How do these Bible verses influence your answer?

Matt 6:33 "Seek first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you."
For years I have fought this early morning devotion stuff. I always thought that it did not make any difference when I sought out God each day. Besides there was always breakfast to make, clothes to wash, and once I got going there was just no end to the things that needed doing NOW! I have had to train myself to try and wake up earlier and have that seeking time each day first. The day goes better like everyone says and all the other things eventually get done anyway.

You are right Betty. It takes a discipline to make God first priority each day. I'm in the process of that myself right now. It is so easy to allow 'life' to get in the way of our precious time with Him. But when I do, like you, the day does go a lot better. Not everything I have on my list gets done, but it's just ok. God bless.

The part that spoke to me was "the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life". I tend to feel sorry for myself in having to spend so much of my time taking care of my little angel on earth & he consumes such a big part of my day and I don't have the time to "play" or indulge in my hobbies like I use to. I pray for the strength to be more grateful that Heavenly Father gave me this opportunity to grow and improve on my virtues. after all, we were put in this life to love and serve others. When we are in the service of others, we are in the service of our God.
